Carrollton – 2016 Election in Historical Perspective Program

September 27, 2016 @ 6:30 pm - 7:30 pm

Neva Lomason Memorial Library welcomes UWG historian Daniel K. Williams at 6:30 p.m. The surprising developments of the 2016 presidential election season may seem unprecedented, but there are actually a few historical parallels that can shed light on what is currently happening in American politics. If you want to gain a historically informed understanding of what may appear at first glance to be just a crazy election cycle, join Dr. Williams as he goes beyond the headlines to interpret recent political developments in the light of long-term trends in American liberalism and conservatism. Dr. Williams’ lecture will examine some of the major presidential elections of the last century and show how the events of the past can help us make sense of what is happening in American politics today.
